Lt. Lawrence C. Stoneberg, age 72, of Des Plaines. Beloved husband of Elaine (nee Asbury) Stoneberg. Loving father of Matthew Stoneberg. Dear brother of Judith (Craig) Kopstain. Fond uncle of Eric (Rani) Kopstain, Lori Thum, and great uncle of Cameron Kopstain, Joshua, Jaden, and Kailey Thum.
Larry was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a four year NROTC Scholarship graduate of the University of Wisconsin at Madison. He faithfully served his country in the Vietnam war, twice awarded the Bronze Star with Valor in combat and the Vietnam Gallantry Cross. His many decorations and awards include the Combat Action Ribbon and the Navy Presidential Unit Citation. Larry was one of the first ever Swift Boat Commanders.
